It can be difficult to spend time in diagnosis when others are pressuring you to take action quickly. Yet, there are many benefits to gaining understanding before jumping to solutions. Share below about the benefits you have experienced from staying in diagnosis.

One of the main benefits I have found is getting to the actual causes rather than mere symptoms. When I have lingered longer in the diagnosis phase, remained silent and allowed more thoughts and ideas to come out, I have found I get other perspectives that shed light on actual causes. Sometimes the less vocal will speak out if I give them time to and they share a unique insight not yet mentioned. Moving quickly to action may cause us to spend precious time solving only a symptom and never really getting to the real meat of the matter.
The diagnosis stage is perfect for managing self and hearing from multiple inputs. How often we go off half-cocked only to come to the conclusion that we didn’t have concensus of the group. By remaining in diagnosis, we have the opportunity to hear from a broader spectrum.
I also agree wholeheartedly with Dr. Johnson’s comments that restraint from action unveils the problem at a deeper level without spending hours trying to fix symptoms.
In working with hundreds of business , I have practiced the mantra: “If the problem (opportunity) is well-defined, the solution isn’t far behind.”
Holistic problem-solving refines the solutions directly from the opportunity “fodder.”
Backing away to have clearer vision is often the most challenging part of the process.
