When Wesley Hospital sold to a for-profit, hospital group decades ago, proceeds from the sale established the Kansas Health Foundation. The foundation launched with the goal of improving the health of all Kansans. About 15 years after its founding, KHF founded the Kansas Health Institute to serve as an objective source of news and information about public health issues. After years of research, the Foundation also established The Kansas Leadership Center. For years, Kansans believed a lack of civic leadership contributed to little progress on creating healthier, more prosperous communities.

The Kansas Health Foundation is a private philanthropy dedicated to improving the health of all Kansans. Using a strategic grant-making approach, the Foundation seeks opportunities to invest its resources in people and projects that meet its mission and create long-term, sustainable health improvements.
Today, the Foundation focuses its grant making in six primary focus areas. To learn more, visit www.khf.org.

The Topeka-based Kansas Health Institute serves as an independent, nonprofit voice for health policy and research. Established in 1995 with a multi-year grant from the Kansas Health Foundation, the Institute conducts research and policy analysis on health-related issues. Like us, its vision and planning are based on the belief that if information is made available and communicated to decision-makers in the state, better-informed choices will be made that can improve the health of Kansans.
